Experiential Education

Through an experiential approach in groups of young people, as well as one-to-one therapy, I have seen young people respond positively to a combination of verbal and physical approaches. Experiential education provides numerous opportunities for individuals with various learning styles and abilities. Even if they’re not strong in one particular area, through the wide array experiential experiences we’re able to provide, we increase the chances of them being engaged, opening up a space for them to be able to learn.

Experiential education is direct experience and focused reflection aimed at increasing knowledge, developing skills, clarifying values, and developing a young person’s capacity to contribute to his/her community. This can take place in various forms and settings, from indoor games and activities to stimulate conversation, to outdoor initiatives such as hiking, camping, or high and low ropes courses.

This approach is highly effective precisely because it is exciting, challenging, and often novel to participants. Furthermore, it promotes connection by engaging individuals and groups in a shared purpose accomplished with a sense of play. It also appeals to a variety of learning styles and cognitive abilities.
